Like most auditors and consultants I did not start off in quality management let alone all the other standards I now find myself auditing and consulting on.
My first career was in the textile industry working as a designer. You might well have come across some of my designs in fashion, sailcloth, aerospace, automotive and even vegetable netting.! Life as a designer was nothing if not varied even running an in-house printing company, organising trade fairs and writing and producing the in-house magazines for several organisations.
My last “proper job” was in quality management for a global automotive company, I jumped ship and joined SGS as a Lead Auditor, leaving 16 years later as a Senior auditor having expanded my repertoire to include environment, health & safety, social accountability, Legal standards and being an in-house trainer.
In the following years I added energy performance management and collaborative working systems to my toolbox along with some quirky standards such as chain of custody for high value diamonds and LEGO compliance, while working for a number of certification bodies.
When I am at home, I usually keep busy playing classical guitar and a variety of acoustic guitars in a group. I also keep my hand in with designing including silver jewellery and painting.
I sit on a charitable trust for the local community and I am involved in the running of a charity raising funds for small animal sanctuaries, charities and rescues.
My interests are numerous as I am always keen to learn whether professionally or at home. Some sports have taken my fancy and I have been seen horse riding, well mostly being thrown off, gliding and even parachuting but my main sporting activity I will leave the reader to guess.
As part of a 4-person team I hold 3 British records……
